General information

Ahhh, the '80s... what a time to be alive and climbing!

Back then, climbing was a whole different world. News travelled through magazines and word of mouth and the climbing community was just a fraction of what it is today. Around the time when Wolfgang Güllich was redefining what was possible, ESACers were already going to Nideggen in their colorful leggings!

Climbing there demanded a more static and powerful style than what many of us are used to today, because the conglomerate pebbles weren't really trustworthy back then. Those cool climbers with bandanas, belaying with a figure eight (in the best case scenario, since safety standards were still finding their way into the sport), had to think twice before committing to a move.

Fast forward a few decades, the trends have changed a bit. Nideggen has mellowed out a little and the amount of beers consumed has also gone down dramatically. The loose pebbles have long fallen away, making the climbing friendlier while still preserving its unmistakable character. Often nicknamed the Mini-Bleau of Germany, the area offers a beautiful forest setting that's perfect for climbing, even in early September.

Therefore, dress up in your favourite 80s outfit and meet up with all the esacers you haven't seen in a while at this beautiful classic crag!

Keep in mind that for joining this weekend your single pitch license is required.
